Conspired with the British, Gulab Singh had turned traitor to the Sikhs. Britishers rewarded the territory of Kashmir to Gulab Singh. The early issues of copper and silver coins that were struck in Kashmir under the rule of Gulab Singh have the Sikh symbol of leaf. Later on, the leaf symbol was removed from his coinage.
